A memorable line from the classic (and I say 'classic' cause I'm not that old!!) Dragnet t.v. series. Okay, if I could just stray for a moment....when I was an undergraduate I had the desire to some day write for a major newspaper and be a well known and respected journalist.
As an up and coming young journalist, I enrolled in a journalism class. It was going well (at least I thought so) until one day my professor said to me..."I really enjoy your writing, however.....you write like you talk." Huh????
As I saw my career at the New York Times slipping away, he continued. "When you're reporting the news, you need to get right to the five W's and the H (who, what, where, when, why and how) and unfortunately, you're a bit too flowery".....which meant that my stories had too many unnecessary words. Huh????
Anyway, long story short (or not! I suppose, since that seems to be impossible for the once promising, but failed flowery journalism reject..) I did not go on to be a journalist.
With that being said, I'm going to take the advice of Professor dream crusher and give a brief update as to the status of our adoption.
Our I-600 was filed with USCIS (U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services) in Vietnam on 12-19-08. We received acknowledgement of receipt of our I-600, along with a request for DNA testing for baby F and her biological parents on 12-29-08. DNA testing was completed on 1-14-09. We are now waiting for the results of the DNA testing, which we should receive in the next couple of days. Oh, and Chrisfeeney and I had to be re-fingerprinted at the USCIS office in Philly on 1-6-09. That was a nightmare because the girl doing my fingerprints says to me "the machine is having a hard time reading your prints" So, I'm like "why is that?" and she's like "oh that happens sometimes, we see it a lot with senior citizens." so I say "clearly, that's not the problem." so she says "well, it can also happen if you wash a lot of dishes or handle a lot of cleaning products" so Chrisfeeney says "clearly, that's not the problem!" Whatev!
